Sandra Muteteri Heremans

Sandra Muteteri Heremans (°1989) is a visual artist and filmmaker with a background in art history and anthropology. Born in Rwanda and raised for the most part in Belgium, Heremans is interested in the artistic and political legacies of the twentieth-century in today’s world.
In her film La Mazda Jaune et Sa Sainteté (2018) she explored the political and intimate potential through a very solid and rhythmic editing of photographs, archival material and the missing image: the black image. Through this black image she stylistically investigates the process of memory and remembrance.
In her lecture performance In search of Gilbert and Idrissa : African students in the Soviet Union (2023-2025) and her film work Je t’embrasse, Gilbert (2026-2027) she explores intertwined histories shaped by diasporic experience, African socialist movements in the post-independence period and the political legacies of the Cold War.
